Effect of Erythropoietin on DNA Synthesis by Erythroblasts in Vitro

Abstract

Abstract The tentative interpretations about the action of erythropoietin in vitro, based on consideration of our present studies, are (1) that erythropoietin increases heme synthesis in bone marrow cultures as a whole, and probably in individual erythroblasts as well, and (2) that erythropoietin induces DNA synthesis by erythroblasts. On the basis of these limited data we cannot make a statement about the relation between these two effects.
