Abstract

Work's aim was to carry out an integrative review of the literature on medicinal plants used by the population of Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This review was prepared from online databases. Subsequently, the health problems cited in the selected articles were classified according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10) and the plants were studied. Three studies were selected, two of which were carried out on islands and the ethnobotanical knowledge of the elderly predominated. The Asteraceae and Lamiaceae families were the most cited, with the leaves and the decoction being most used as parts of the plant and form of preparation, respectively. In addition, there was an agreement of the plants used by the population, regarding the therapeutic indication with the diseases that cause illness. In view of the results obtained, it can be concluded that the municipality has a lack of study of ethnobotany, knowledge among younger people tends to disappear and the species studied can be used, minimizing the population’s illness. Literature review works such as this are important tools for the design of new projects for Primary Health Care and for the development of medicines of plant origin.
