Abstract

Brazil is a privileged country for its territorial extension and holds 15 to 20% of the global Biodiversity, that is why it is included in the list of megadiverse countries. It has an outstanding potential for product development, based on the natural resources existing in its territory. The national scenario of the Brazilian Pharmaceutical Bioindustry has high technological requirements, imposed by the regulations of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). On the other hand, Brazilian environmental legislation is well constituted in terms of characterizing environmental crimes. Law nº. 13.123 of 2015 recognizes the importance of traditional knowledge associated with Brazilian biodiversity and establishes mechanisms for sharing benefits. This whole scenario would be perfect, if it were not for small issues to be understood and corrected, such as the greater integration, valuation and return evaluation of the herbal medicine development chain. There is still time to change this scenario, but we need speed, strategy and efficiency, otherwise we will be burning our genetic library of Amazonian Bioinovative opportunities.
