Abstract
The lasting impact of Ellen Bialystok’s research on bilingualism has been momentous. In this concluding chapter, we synthesize the arguments and evidence presented in previous chapters to explain how her impressive contributions have helped inform our understanding of multilingual experiences, its influence in the educational system, implications for cognition, and neuroplasticity, as well as creating a protective barrier against age-related decline known as “cognitive reserve.” With these insights, we point toward potential future paths that will expand upon Dr. Bialystok’s groundbreaking work.
