Abstract

A novel photochromic diarylethene derivative with a di-2-picolylamine unit and a hydroxyl group has been designed and synthesized for the first time. The selective interaction of its closed-ring isomers with Cu2+ ions was investigated systematically. The results indicated that the diarylethene derivative could be used as a colorimetric sensor for the selective recognition of Cu2+ ions.
