Abstract

By combining non-π-conjugated [SeO4] tetrahedra with highly polar [IO3]/[IO2(OH)] groups, large optical band gaps and large birefringence in two novel iodate-selenates Na7(SeO4)3(IO3) and K2(SeO4)[IO2(OH)] have been successfully achieved.
