Abstract

We have described a mild and efficient method for the construction of phenanthrenyl triflates from α-aryl-α-diazoketones. The reaction of 1-biphenylyl-2-diazo-2-aryl ketones and triflic anhydride proceeded smoothly to produce phenanthrenyl triflates via vinyl cation intermediates.
