Abstract

We report a Sillén-type layered oxyhalide SrBi3O4Cl3 with asymmetric structure as a photocatalyst for visible-light-induced water splitting, due to the Bi–Bi interaction across the single halogen layer and the electrostatic destabilization of Cl in the double halogen layer.
