Abstract

A bifunctional frustrated BH/B hydridoborate nucleophile/borane Lewis acid pair is prepared starting from a zwitterionic phoshonium borata-diene by a sequence of sequential protonation/hydride attachment, followed by hydroboration with Piers' borane [HB(C6F5)2]. The bifunctional product reduced carbon monoxide.
