Abstract
Research studies on the sulfate radical-advanced oxidation process (SR-AOP) have been accumulating in recent decades. This chapter focuses on heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and peroxydisulfate (PDS) using metal (zero-valent iron, copper), transition metal oxides (iron oxides, cobalt oxides, manganese oxides, etc.) and perovskite-type metal oxides for the deconstruction of organic pollutants in wastewater and soil. In this chapter we introduce the micro/nano structure characteristics of the above catalysts as well as the activation efficiency and mechanism of the heterogeneous activation of persulfate (PS). Finally, the environmental significance of the heterogeneous activation of PS is also discussed.
