Simple and effective route for synthesis of parvaquone, an antiprotozoal drug

Abstract

Parvaquone, an antiprotozoal agent is made from 1-naphthol and cyclohexanol in 33.8% overall yield in four steps: a novel acid catalyzed cyclohexylation to get 2-cyclohexyl-1-naphthol in 86% followed by oxidation, epoxidation and isomerization.
