Abstract
Selective adsorption is an important research topic in the field of capacitive deionization (CDI), which has attracted increasing interest in recent years, especially in terms of water softening. In this chapter we review recent advances and challenges in this area. We think the most challenging issue in this field is still how to improve the ion selectivity of CDI process. More effort should still be put into developing new materials and their synthesis methodologies.
