Abstract
Basic chemical principals of importance for photography are reviewed. Selective absorption of dyes and pigments are described, as well as chemical and photo-chemical bleaching, in particular as relating to several natural plant dyes of importance for the anthotype photographic process. The elementary photochemistry of iron-based photochemistry is reviewed in relation to the cyanotype process, and silver-based photographic processes are described as they relate to both developed-out and printed-out images made with silver gelatin emulsions. Gums, resins, polymers, and colloids are described and compared as they relate to several photographic processes described in the book.
