Abstract

A new tool to study ceramide synthase activity in cells: A labelled NBD-1-deoxysphingosine is used to monitor the ceramide synthase catalyzed metabolic incorporation of ω-azido palmitic acid to render a bichromophoric 1-deoxydihydroceramide FRET sensor.
