Abstract
Pyridines were originally used for a limited number of applications, such as the improvement of latex stretch. During the last 50 years, this interest has increased significantly due the discovery that pyridines are often part of bioactive components, e.g. vitamins B3 and B6. This chapter begins with a discussion of the traditional Chichibabin and Hantzsch pyridine syntheses, then looks at approaches that have been taken to make these processes greener.
