Abstract

Divergent syntheses of 3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[h]chromen-2-ones and fluorenones using ortho-alkynylarylketones as common precursors are reported. Using an Ag(i) catalyst and an acid led to benzochromenones while fluorenones were formed when only an acid was used.
