A simple donor–acceptor probe for the detection of Cr3+ cations

Abstract
A probe exhibits fluorescence enhancement upon exposure to Cr(iii) in a THF–water (v/v = 9/1) Tris–HCl buffer solution. Fluorescence imaging experiments of the exciplex in human glioma cells evidenced its potential application in biological systems.
