Inhibited corrosion-promotion activity of graphene encapsulated in nanosized silicon oxide

Abstract
The corrosion-promotion activity of graphene is inhibited when graphene is encapsulated in insulating SiO2 because SiO2 can act as a spacer isolating graphene from the metal substrate so as to prevent graphene–metal micro-galvanic corrosion. Incorporating rGO@SiO2 nanosheets into a polymer coating also greatly enhances the corrosion resistance of the coating.
