Abstract
Phenomenology has been argued as the best paradigm for exploring the relationship between race and rehabilitation for minority clients. The purpose of this qualitative investigation was to build on earlier survey studies by conducting focus group interviews of African Americans closed either success folly or unsuccess fully. The findings in this study support the assertions that race is a salient factor for African Americans in rehabilitation and can shade their perception of the experience. Theoretical considerations and practice implications are discussed.
