Abstract
Previous research has provided alternative explanations for the relationship between traumatic injury and self-concept. This study utilized a small sample of spinal cord injured individuals who were interviewed in order to determine how the injury had affected their general life satisfaction. Several subjects reported positive changes in their life as a result of being severely disabled. Other subjects reported no essential changes in their life view following disabling accidents. A minority of those interviewed indicated negative life changes subsequent to the injury. Implications for rehabilitation counseling with the spinal-cord injured were discussed.
