Abstract
The title compound is a salt, trans-1,1′-dihydroxy-4,4′-diazenediyldipyridinium dichloride, C10H10N4O2
2+·2C l−, in which the trans-4,4′-azopyridine N,N′-dioxide cation is located on an inversion centre with the pyridine N-oxide atoms protonated. The Cl− anions form strong hydrogen bonds to these H atoms. Weak C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds link the cations and anions into a two-dimensional sheet.
