Abstract
The title compound, C15H11ClO2S, was prepared by the oxidation of 5-chloro-3-methylsulfanyl-2-phenyl-1-benzofuran using 3-chloroperbenzoic acid. The 1-benzofuran ring system is almost planar. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak aromatic π–π stacking and –CH2—H...π interactions.
