Abstract
Ecohydrology has opened up a wide spectrum for research and solutions to complex environmental problems in aquatic ecosystems. This article analyzes the main advances, trends and interactions with the social component, emphasizing practical applications to provide functional solutions to water resources problems. A critical-analytical review of 1.592 articles published between 1997 and 2019, compiled with Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 software, was carried out. A trend towards research on water management, fluvial Ecohydrology in arid and semi-arid systems, ecosystem services in watersheds, and Ecohydrology and vegetation is identified. The analysis allowed the identification of possible solutions applicable to the San Juan basin, in Santiago de Cuba, such as the use of phyto and faunotechnologies and the maintenance of the environmental flow.
