Cultural Context and Cordage Twist Direction

Abstract

Data on cordage impressions of ceramic vessels from several sites in Delaware and southeast Pennsylvania show significant cordage twist direction variation in relation to individual households, decorative styles, and cordage use. Variation within these cultural contexts complicates the use of cordage twist variation data to identify distinctive social groupings within the central Middle Atlantic region.
