Abstract
Although many attempted suicides receive their first medical aid in the hospital emergency room, many attending physicians appear unsympathetic with such persons and sometimes provide medical treatment in a punitive fashion. Nurses respond somewhat more appropriately, but education concerning the emotional problems of attempted suicides and other forms of crises would be useful.
