Abstract
The tremendous abundance of information being put forth in our communications-oriented society today has become a drug on the market, making Americans addicts to their communication machines, according to this leading spokesman and pioneer of the fledgling information industry. We must do more than simply make our machines turn out more information faster, he warns. We must develop a population that can handle information adeptly and discriminatingly, and we must develop information systems that do not overload people's capacities to absorb and use it.
