Abstract
This paper briefly addresses some of the factors related to problems concerning the definition of alcoholism. The effectiveness of treatment models and the apparent multivariate nature of alcoholism are discussed. It is suggested that the multivariate and interdependent nature of these problems merits consideration of research to ascertain the possible utility of a multivariate definition and treatment model.
