Abstract
A small group affective education approach to teaching high school youth about alcohol stresses group exploration of student-generated questions and concerns by creating an atmosphere of free emotional interchange in which students can sort feelings, facts, and myths. Students develop awareness and respect for values and beliefs of peers and examine their own drinking behavior. Groups meet weekly for eight to ten weeks. Techniques include exercises to build up trust, skits based on student-suggested incidents, and free art activities.
