Abstract
The object of the present communication is, firstly, to compare the behaviour of unsaturated fatty oils towards hydrogen, in presence of finely disseminated nickel, with that of glucosides, towards water, in presence of enzymes; secondly, to emphasise the remarkable analogy that is apparent between these two different types of interaction. The nature of enzymes and of their action as hydrolytic agents has been fully discussed by one of us, in conjunction with H. E. Armstrong.
