Abstract
Though there have been many determinations of the dispersion of air, and a few of those of oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, the degree of accuracy hitherto attained can hardly be called satisfactory. The figures given by careful observers are not concordant, and those who wish to make use of them in further research find little to guide them in choosing the best values. This is our apology for undertaking new determinations, and for offering a brief summary and criticism of previous work.
