Abstract
This paper presents the absorption spectrum of cobalt chloride in concentrated hydrochloric acid as a solvent, and a discussion of the data obtained with regard to certain theoretical possibilities of its complex structure. No attempt has been made to present or discuss theories concerning the nature of the cobalt ions or complexes in various solutions and compounds. The absorption spectrum of cobalt chloride in hydrochloric acid has been observed and studied by a number of investigations. In many of the earlier papers the work was undetected. In the first of these investigations the band was recorded as a smooth curve with but two or three apparent maxima. With an increase in the accuracy of the methods and apparatus for absorption spectra measurement, recent observes have resolved this complex band into four bands.
