Fluid resistance to moving spheres

Author:

Abstract

The present research was undertaken in order to improve the existing data on the resistance of fluids to moving spheres, and especially to examine the resistance in cases of accelerated motion. Some preliminary results were published in 1924, and these are extended in the present paper, which is divided as follows:— I. Experimental. II. Equations of motion. III. Analysis of results— A. For terminal speeds. B. For initial stages of acceleration. C. For final stages of acceleration. D. For all values of acceleration. IV. Comparison with previous work. V. Special notes, and summary.
