Abstract
A structure for cyanuric triazide was proposed by T. C. Sutton based on a very few X-ray intensity measurements, which are not in agreement with those obtained here. A structure derived from so little data could not be more than a suggestion, as was realized by Sutton himself, who, not being in a position to undertake one, invited a complete X-ray investigation. He supplied (with the kind permission of the Director of Explosives Research, Woolwich) all the material required and from this excellent crystals of varied size were prepared by Dr. H. S. Gilchrist. In his paper Sutton published a valuable account of the optical properties of the crystals, the evidence from which is in entire disagreement with his structure, but bears out the layer structure, to which the present investigation leads.
