Abstract
1—In a series of papers in these
proceedings
between 1928 and 1935, I have developed a combination of relativity theory and wave mechanics applicable to a number of fundamental problems. A more mature treatment is given in my book "Relativity Theory of Protons and Electrons" (1936) hereinafter referred to as
P
. and
E
. This theory will here be applied to the problem of close encounters of two protons. In particular it will be used to calculate the form and depth of the potential well which is found to occur in the wave equation of the relative motion. As the problem is of a somewhat different type from those treated in my book, the main difficulty has been to formulate it in terms of the relativistic conceptions there introduced. After that has been accomplished, the mathematical calculation are comparatively elementary.
