Abstract
The methods described in the two foregoing papers have been applied to the study of the adsorption of oxygen on a hydrogen-covered surface and of the behaviour of hydrogen when the surface has previously been covered, or nearly covered, with oxygen. 1—The Adsorption of Oxygen on a Hydrogen-Covered Surface Using the accommodation coefficient of neon as an indicator, it has been shown that oxygen can be adsorbed at room temperature on a tungsten surface already covered with hydrogen. The bare tungsten surface was first covered with hydrogen so that the accommodation coefficient rose to 0·16. Oxygen was the introduced and after several admissions the accommodation coefficient rose to 0·36.
