Large-deflexion torsion and flexure of initially curved strips

Abstract

General expressions are derived for the large-deflexion relations between bending moment, torque, longitudinal and twisting curvature for initially curved strips of lenticular and constant thickness section. Particular attention is paid to the behaviour under pure moment and pure torque and it is shown that the presence of initial curvatures can introduce some novel forms of instability.
