Electrons at surfaces of solids

Abstract

Some aspects of theoretical solid-state physics will be reviewed briefly and their implication for chemical behaviour discussed. These relate to the theory of electron states at solid surfaces, particularly intrinsic surface states, low-energy electron diffraction (l.e.e.d.), and how the electron states of the bulk material terminate at the surface.
