Abstract
The radial flow of an inviscid heat conducting gas, with gravitational effects, is considered. The gas is assumed non-monatomic, but the limit to the monatomic state is considered in great detail. It is shown that the results of Roberts & Soward (1972) can be predicted from the present analysis, and further that considerable light is shed on their results. For the non-monatomic gas, the various asymptotic regions (obtained when the energy flux at infinity approaches zero) are far simpler in their details than those encountered by Roberts & Soward.
