Abstract
Strains of
Bact. lactis aerogenes
, highly resistant to chloramphenicol, have been obtained by a technique involving serial subculture on agar plates containing gradually increasing concentrations of drug. The survival throughout was so high as to render negligible selection of rare specially endowed cells. Additional tests have confirmed the essential homogeneity of the bacterial population.
