VI. The morphology of the ungulate placenta, particularly the development of that organ in the sheep, and notes upon the placenta of the elephant and hyrax

Author:

Abstract

The following account of the development of the placenta in certain members of the Ungulata Vera and Sub-Ungulata forms part of the direct outcome of a grant of money received some years ago from the Government through the Royal Society. This grant has defrayed a considerable portion of the expense incurred. During the years which have passed since I received it, I have published accounts of the development of the sheep and pig, in the ‘Quarterly Journal of Microscopical Science,’ and ‘Journal of Anatomy and Physiology,’ which work, though not the direct object for which I received the grant, was nevertheless a result of it. I wish, therefore, to express my sincere gratitude to the Committee of the Royal Society and to the Government for having placed the money at my disposal.
