Abstract
Radium beryllium fluoride (RaBeF
4
) is proposed as a new form of radium-α-beryllium neutron source, for adoption as a standard. Three such sources have been prepared and calibrated; they give a neutron yield which is proportional to the radium content to within ½%. Details are given of the techniques used in the preparation and standardization of these sources; probable errors in the calibration are discussed.
