Abstract
A general discussion is given of the factors which determine the angular correlation between incident particles and emitted radiation, in the case of particle capture by nuclei of light atoms. The results are applied to the cases Be

, the variation of the angular distribution of the γ-radiation with proton energy has been studied, and the results compared with a detailed theoretical interpretation, based on the Breit-Wigner dispersion formula applied to more than one level of the compound nucleus. The comparison provides excellent support for the validity of the dispersion formula, and the conditions are very favourable for such a check.
