Electron resonance studies of haemoglobin derivatives. II. Results for types A , B , C , D , and F myoglobin crystals

Author:

Abstract

This paper summarizes the results obtained from an investigation of the acid-met derivatives of type B, C, D and F myoglobin crystals. The method of electron resonance has been employed in a manner similar to that described in part I (Bennett, Gibson & Ingram 1957), and by studying the large g -value variation from 2.0 to 6.0 it has been possible to deduce the orientations of the haem groups in all of these crystal types. The results are analyzed in three different ways, and are also presented in the form of stereographic plots from which the properties of g tensors with axial symmetry can be clearly seen. A comparison is also made between the optical dichroic ratios predicted from these results, and those that have been observed experimentally.
