Abstract

There is present in varying intensities in excretions surrounding the wool fibres of many sheep a golden brown colouration. Disposition to colouration appears to be an hereditary individual characteristic, but the depth of colour is influenced by conditions conducive to sweating, by diet and to some extent by age. No reference to the cause of this colouration, the nature of the responsible pigment, nor to genetical work on predisposition to it can be found in the literature.
