Abstract
Pollution studies using seabirds have largely been confined to evaluating effects foil and organochlorine compounds, although more recently studies have been ted on the possible effects of toxic metals. The work on the organochlorine apounds in particular has produced a number of new techniques. Many of these are derived from studies of terrestrial and freshwater birds, but reference will be de to them where they can equally be applied to seabirds. Techniques will be considered under three headings: (1) seabirds as indicators pollution, (2) their value in demonstrating sublethal effects, and (3) lethal cts. In practice the three are often closely related.
