Abstract
β-Histones have been isolated in apparently pure condition from the nuclei of the erythrocytes, lymphocytes and hepatic cells obtained from the domestic fowl. They closely resemble theβ-histories from the ox in their physico-chemical properties and in their general composition. A detailed examination of the compositions of the three histones from the fowl reveals differences, which are outside the limits of experimental error, in their contents of particular amino acids. It is concluded that theβ-histones of the fowl are cell specific. The physiological significance of these and of earlier results is discussed.
