XXVII. Catalogue of one thousand new nebulæ and clusters of stars

Abstract

The following catalogue, which contains one thousand new nebulæ and clusters of starts, is extracted from a series of observations (or sweeps of the heavens), which was begun in the year 1783, and which I am still continuing till the whole be completed. As I may, perhaps, find an opportunity hereafter to publish these observations at full length, I shall now only mention such circumstances, relating to the instrument and apparatus with which they were made, as will be necessary to shew what degree of accuracy may be expected in the determination of the places of these nebulæ and clusters of start; and also to serve any astronomer, who wishes to review them, to form a judgement what instrument will suffice for this purpose.
