Abstract
Five of the chromic sulphate alums have been investigated by the method of paramagnetic resonance at room temperature. Except for the potassium alum, a crystalline electric field of trigonal symmetry gives an adequate explanation of the positions and intensities of the lines in the absorption spectrum. The observed widths of the absorption lines correspond closely with those calculated from magnetic dipole interaction.
