Abstract
With polar liquids an electric field produces a small increase in viscosity which is proportional to the square of the field. The experiments now described confirm the viscoelectric effect established in the earlier communications and further show that the effect varies with the frequency, increasing from a finite value at zero frequency according to a simple parabolic law. The implications of the effect are discussed.
