Abstract
The paper gives the practical application of the principles of the preceding paper to the Liverpool synchrocyclotron and the designs of the various components of the extraction system are described, as well as the procedure for optimizing the extracted proton-beam current. In the final result, 3% of the circulating beam was extracted from the cyclotron tank. The beam has an energy of 383 MeV with no measurable energy-spread. By the aid of an auxiliary focusing magnet, the beam has been focused into a fairly well defined spot, and the proton-flux per sq.in. is at least 1000 times greater than that obtained from any similar machine.
